Last year I took part in Movember, a charity event involving growing a moustache for the month of November in aid of cancer research. On the cash raising front I took in a respectable amount, around €2000 if memory serves me correctly. On the moustache front it wasn’t so respectable, my Mo was embarrassingly ginger and sparse; to quote my brother-in-law “We’ve got more fuzz growing in our fruit bowl”.
Anyway, as embarrassing as it is the cash raised is for a great cause. A few months ago a colleague was unexpectedly diagnosed with leukemia. It was a shock for me because I ignorantly assumed that leukemia was something that only affected really young people and beating it was merely a formality. Seeing what Big Dave is going through at present (just after finishing the second round of chemotherapy) really brought home how serious an illness it is and how randomly it can strike.
In honor of the Big Fella a few colleagues and I are creating a Movember team… “DBarry De bop De bop”. Your donations are welcome, to make one just click here!
All funds raised go directly to cancer research and you get a receipt in PDF format after donating (a few budgets ago I think you could claim tax credits for charitable donations… not sure if it’s still the case).
I’ll post images here and on the Movember site as I go. There’s talk of a sponsored head shave too at the end of the month, I’ll post more on that if it materialises.
More coming soon…
